The new research project entitled Energy Efficient and Trustworthy Deep Learning (acronym: DeepLET) was launched in 4th December 2024 and is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation (H.F.R.I) and European Union, under the call “Basic Research Financing (Horizontal support for all Sciences), National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Greece 2.0)”. The project which will be running for two years is coordinated by the Computational Intelligence and Deep Learning (CIDL) research group of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while one more partner, Aarhus University of Denmark, will contribute to the successful implementation of the project. DeepFinance research project successfully organized the virtual workshop “AI for Financial Portfolio Management” on Friday June 30, 2023. The goal of the workshop was to bring together innovative academics and industrial experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and finances to a common forum. OpenDR H2020 research project will co-organise with MARVEL H2020 research project the Summer School “Deep Learning for Autonomous Systems and Smart Cities” on May 23-26 2023 in the city of Aarhus. The summer school will host invited talks by distinguished researchers and industrial experts, as well as talks by the project participants that will reflect the achievements in the two ongoing projects. The workshop hosted nine interesting talks by innovative academics and industrial experts and it was well attended. In the first week of October 2022 OpenDR project which CIDL group coordinates organised the Summer School “Continuous Engineering and Deep Learning for Trustworthy Autonomous Systems” in collaboration with FOCETA H2020 research project. The summer school was held in the premises of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 3 to 7 October and was attended by many deep learning and autonomous systems enthusiasts.
Various interesting talks/invited talks relevant to OpenDR’s research fields were given, with topics such as: “DL for Object Detection/Tracking 3D”, “Robotic Grasping for Agile Production”, “Robotic Simulation Environments”, as well as talks relevant to FOCETA project’s research subject, such as ”Continuous Engineering of Trustworthy Autonomy”, “DNN Robustness and Resiliency Approaches”, “Formal Methods for Safe and Accountable AI” etc. The majority of the talks were given by OpenDR and FOCETA project partners, while there were also invited talks that were given.
In the last day of the summer school, a hands-on workshop took place, during which, AUTH team showcased the use of different tools of the OpenDR toolkit. The workshop attendees had the opportunity to participate simultaneously, by following the tutorials using their notebooks. Furthermore, certificates of attendance were provided to the participants after the end of the summer school.

Dr. Nousi continues her postdoctoral research at the Computational Intelligence and Deep Learning research group (CIDL Research Group), in the OpenDR and DeepFinance projects, as well as in the context of the VIRGO-AUTh group.

Dr. Maria Tzelepi was awarded the best 2020-2021 doctoral thesis in the area of Artificial Intelligence by the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society. Dr. Tzelepi completed her doctoral thesis, entitled “Deep Learning Techniques in Digital Media”, under the supervision of Professor Anastasios Tefas at the Dept. of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 2021. Part of her Phd research was conducted in the context of OpenDR project, focusing on lightweight deep learning for robotics applications. Dr. Tzelepi continues her postdoctoral research at the Computational Intelligence and Deep Learning research group, in several projects (OpenDR, MALENA, DeepStream). The award ceremony will take place on September 9, 2022, at the 12th Conference on Artificial Intelligence (SETN2022).
